About Eye Institute

Eye Institute is one of New Zealand’s top providers of eye surgery and ophthalmic care. We offer patients the latest vision correction technology, first-class eye care and Australasia’s highly experienced eye doctors and surgeons.

Our vision to give people a quality of life they thought they could never have, underpins everything we do at Eye Institute. We restore a person’s most valued sense, and thereby their independence.

Vibrant company culture

We embrace diversity: our people come from all corners of the globe, and different walks of life. They speak more than 20 different languages.

We recognise the value that an inclusive workforce brings to the way we work and the way we provide care to our patients. We are proud to share that in February 2021, Eye Institute became the first Ophthalmology practice in Aotearoa to be Rainbow Tick Certified.

Our values

Eye Institute is a values-based organisation, and we are proud to say our people are at its heart. Our values were developed by us for us. They represent the things that are important to us -the things that influence how we behave and guide how we interact with each other and our patients.

  • Providing exceptional patient experiences,
  • Working as ONE team and
  • Demonstrating excellence in everything we do by going the extra mile.

Theatre team

Our registered perioperative nurses are part of a multidisciplinary team delivering optimum standards of patient care pre-operatively, in the operating theatre suite, and post-operatively.

This involves:

  • Reviewing and preparing all of the preoperative paperwork such as patient consent forms, medical history, allergies and health questionnaires, comforting and preparing patients before theatre admission
  • Assisting the ophthalmologists during surgery
  • Assisting patients post-operatively with their recovery and ensuring they are fit to be discharged following their procedure

Sterilising technicians are responsible for checking, sterilising instruments, and providing all supplies. This ensures that the scrub nurse and surgeon have all the instruments and medical supplies they need for each procedure.
