Eye Institute’s main eye clinic – situated in the peaceful Auckland suburb of Remuera – features New Zealand’s first purpose-built ‘day-stay’ eye hospital.

The day-stay eye hospital provides highly specialised eye care in a dedicated eye clinic, reducing the need for overnight stays in hospital. This ensures you get the best possible results, and helps keep costs among the lowest in the eye care field.

While most treatments are day-stay procedures, there are some that may still require an overnight stay. In that case, we offer the option to stay overnight at nearby Ascot Hospital, with transport provided in a courtesy car accompanied by a registered nurse.

You’ll enjoy relaxing in the pleasant environment we’ve created at the Eye Institute clinic. We’ve made sure the design, décor and furnishings will help you relax, and the music, videos and magazines on display are all there to help you achieve a calm state of mind before your surgery.

Your relatives or friends are also welcome to accompany you to the eye clinic. They can wait in our comfortable, air-conditioned reception areas, or they can be close to you during your eye surgery by viewing through an observation window.

Safety in our eye hospital

Your eye surgery will be performed in a true theatre environment, with fully trained specialist theatre staff, assuring you of the highest levels of cleanliness and safety.

Our eye hospital is also equipped with HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Air) filters, which can safely remove more than 99.97% of airborne particles.

Eye clinics throughout Auckland

Our main eye clinic in Remuera is easily accessible from the SH1 motorway, with plenty of free parking and lift access.

However, you may find it more convenient to visit one of our satellite eye clinics throughout Auckland, including Eye Institute North Shore, Eye Institute New Lynn, and the new Eye Institute South eye clinic in Manukau. These smaller eye clinics are well equipped and staffed by our highly renowned eye doctors, although for some procedures you may still need to visit the main Eye Institute clinic in Remuera.
