Pioneering eye doctors
The eye doctors at Eye Institute are continually refining and perfecting eye surgery techniques, and are responsible for a number of pioneering advancements in eye surgery. They were the first to introduce laser eye surgery to NZ in 1992, and also developed innovative no-stitch cataract surgery techniques.
Our eye doctors are also heavily involved in research, and frequently present their findings at conferences and events attended by the world’s elite ophthalmologists.
Their passion for bringing the latest eye surgery techniques to patients in New Zealand leads them to regularly attend the annual American Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgeons conference in the US – an investment that few, if any, of our competitors are willing to match.
Training future ophthalmologists
Many of the eye doctors at Eye Institute also hold positions as senior lecturers and examiners at the country’s top universities, where they play an active role in educating the ophthalmologists of the future.
Frequent seminars run by Eye Institute, as well as Eye Institute’s own annual ophthalmology conference, are attended by optometrists and final year students from across NZ. Here, our eye doctors present their own research papers and discuss the latest developments in eye surgery and care.
Eye Institute also operates a unique Accredited Care-Providers Programme for optometrists, giving eye care professionals across NZ the chance to train with the best, and accumulate CPD points while doing so.
