What is iLASIK?
iLASIK the
new “i” in LASIK is you.
Eye Institute has introduced iLASIK
to New Zealand. No matter how ready
you are for life without lenses,
the decision to have LASIK is a big
one. You want to know for certain
that you are getting the safest,
most trusted treatment available.
That is why Eye Institute offers
an advanced approach to LASIK called
iLASIK. The iLASIK technology is
one of the most precise medical procedures
performed today. The iLASIK procedure
addresses the uniqueness of your
two eyes from the individual curvature
of your corneas to the microscopic
nuances of your eyes anatomy – designed
to deliver the exact correction to
allow for 6/6 or better vision.
The iLASIK procedure is revolutionized by the use of two computer
guided lasers instead of one as in previous generations of LASIK.
The first ultra fast laser, a femtosecond laser creates a thin
corneal flap of precise dimensions. This is then folded back to
allow the second laser to correct your vision based on the exact
specification bar measurement of your eyes. The procedure takes
just minutes. Patients experience a virtually painless procedure
with potential for 6/6 or better vision and unparalleled safety.
The problems experienced with use of the microkeratome to make
a flap have been greatly reduced by this technology.
What’s different?
The iLASIK procedure marries the most advanced LASIK technologies
into one procedure representing the
final frontier of LASIK. NASA approves the LASIK procedure for its
astronauts following review
of extensive military clinical data
using the iLASIK technology which showed the use of two lasers (femtosecond
and wavefront guided) that
provided the superior safety through
reduced flap complications and better visual outcomes as compared
to earlier forms of the procedure.
Why should I choose iLASIK procedure over other laser
vision correction options?
Just like the tailoring of a fine suit
or couture fashion, the iLASIK procedure is tailor-made for you,
your vision and the unique characteristics of your two individual
eyes. Three dimension mapping, precise measurement and the use of
the two most advanced lasers differentiate the iLASIK procedure from
all others. Patients not only require 6/6 (or better) vision for
active lifestyles but also prefer not to be bothered with the daily
inconveniences of glasses and contacts. How iLASIK works
The iLASIK IntraLase Femtosecond laser
is used in the important first step
of the 2-step LASIK procedure, the
creation of a corneal flap. The IntraLase
laser eliminates the use (and risks)
of the microkeratome and its blade. With the iLASIK IntraLase
the surgeon precisely controls the
first step of LASIK with a computer
controlled laser that delivers rapid pulses
of light, a quadrillionth of a second
each, to a pre-programmed depth and
position within the cornea. Each pulse forms a microscopic
bubble. As the IntraLase
laser moves painlessly backwards
and forwards across the eye the bubbles
connect to form a corneal flap. The
iLASIK IntraLase technology
is uniquely able to program the dimensions
of your flap based on what is best
for your eye.
iLASIK IntraLase Assurance and Comfort
IntraLase CustomLASIK has
been used successfully on hundreds
of thousands of eyes and we trust this
advanced technology to deliver exceptional
results. Our commitment is to provide
you with the ultimate in comfort, safety,
and outstanding vision. CustomLASIK
with IntraLase can help you achieve
all of this—while it delivers
the added assurance of knowing you’re
being treated with the most advanced
technology there is.
iLASIK IntraLase CustomLASIK is preferred by patients.
In a survey of clinical practices, the vision in the IntraLase-treated eye
was preferred up to 3 to 1 by patients over the vision in the mechanical
blade–treated eye (among those who stated a preference).
iLASIK IntraLase CustomLASIK delivers superior visual
results.
In a clinical study comparing the IntraLase laser to the leading
microkeratome, more patients achieved 20/20 vision or better in
standard and custom LASIK surgery when the IntraLase CustomLASIK
was used to create the corneal flap.
How the iLASIK IntraLase CustomLASIK Works
iLASIK combines the industry's most advanced LASIK technologies
into one procedure. iLASIK is
the safest laser vision correction
method because it is totally customised
for your eyes, and uses 100% blade-free
technology so there are reduced flap
complications. iLASIK also gives
better visual outcomes.
Step
1. Blueprint made of your eye
In order to deliver the exact
correction you need, Iris Registration
and
WaveScan 3D Mapping creates a blueprint
(or fingerprint) of your eye. This
allows our surgeons
to custom-fit the iLASIK procedure.
Your eyes are unique, so the iLASIK
advancement addresses this. This
step involves mapping the individual
curvature of your cornea, to the microscopic
nuances of your anatomy, allowing
us to deliver the exact correction
required.
Step 2. Corneal Flap & Vision Correction
a. An ultra-fast laser creates
a thin corneal flap, which is then folded back. The process is...
- Ultra–fast pulses of laser light position microscopic
bubbles at a precise depth determined by your doctor.
- The laser light passes harmlessly through your cornea, then
creates rows of bubbles just beneath
your corneal surface as it moves
back and forth across your eye
in a uniform plane.
- Next, the IntraLase laser stacks bubbles around your corneal
diameter to create the edges of your flap. These bubbles are
stacked at an angle that is determined by your doctor and is
individualized to the way your eye is shaped.
- The process takes only about 15sec from start to finish— it’s
quiet and comfortable.
- Your doctor then gently lifts the flap to allow for the second
step of your LASIK treatment. When treatment is complete, the
flap easily “locks” back into position and rapidly
begins to heal.
b. A second laser corrects your vision,
based on your eyes exact measurements
and specifications.
You can expect this procedure to be a quick, virtually painless
experience with
immediate results.
Step 3. Post Operative Checks
Final post op checks take place, and then you are free to carry on with your
normal active lifestyle, potentially with 20/20* or better vision.
*Results may vary. 98% of mild to moderately
nearsighted patients participating in the
Advanced CustomVue Clinical Trials could
see 20/20 or better one year after treatment. |
