About Dr Hussain Patel
Dr Hussain Patel is a Specialist Eye Surgeon based at Eye Institute’s peripheral clinics around Auckland - Manukau, North Shore and New Lynn.
Dr Patel specialises in Glaucoma and his practice at Eye Institute utilises the most advanced technology for the early detection and monitoring of glaucoma. Dr Patel provides patients with the latest in medical, laser and surgical management of all types of glaucoma.
Dr Patel also specialises in Cataract Surgery with added expertise in the management of cataract in glaucoma patients. Dr Patel has a comprehensive ophthalmology background and is available for General Ophthalmology consulting.
Dr Patel’s training & experience
Dr Patel underwent undergraduate training in medicine at the University of Otago and completed a post-graduate Doctorate of Medicine research degree in the Department of Ophthalmology, University of Auckland. Dr Patel completed clinical training in Ophthalmology in Wellington and Auckland, and has been awarded Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists.
Dr Patel completed advanced training in Glaucoma with the University of Toronto in Canada. He gained extensive experience in the latest laser and surgical techniques used in the management of glaucoma. He completed a Glaucoma Observership at Moofields Eye Hospital in the UK. Prior to travelling overseas, Dr Patel completed a Clinical and Research Glaucoma Fellowship in the Department of Ophthalmology, University of Auckland.
Dr Patel has a strong interest in research and teaching, and is currently an honorary clinical lecturer with the University of Auckland. He has had numerous papers published in peer reviewed scientific literature and has given presentations at local and international meetings including Australia, Canada and the United States. Dr Patel has associations with the American Glaucoma Society and Academy of Ophthalmology.
