Specialist in Oculoplastic Surgery Opens Practice for Appearance Procedures to Enhance Eye Institute’s Complete Eye Care for Clients
Dr Adam Watson, a highly-trained specialist in oculoplastic surgery and corneal, cataract and refractive surgeon, has established a practice to offer a complete repertoire of procedures to address problems around the eyes – whether functional, aesthetic or both.
The front of the eye and the eyelids interact intimately, forming a functional unit where all parts play a key role. Any form of procedure around the eyes needs to be carried out with the utmost of expert care. The appearance procedures offered by Dr Watson help sculpt and freshen the face and can be used on their own or combined with surgery to deliver the best outcomes for clients.
Dr Watson’s interest in oculoplastic surgery led him to undertake advanced training in the UK. The newly opened practice, which operates from Eye Institute clinics in Remuera and North Shore, specialises in Botox® and filler injections around the eyes. Botox diminishes dynamic lines (those caused by muscle action in the face) and fillers diminish static lines and furrows (those that are present when the face is at rest).
Dr Watson considers Botox and fillers as an important addition to his surgical practice. “Lines, wrinkles, creases or furrows were previously treatable only with excision of skin plus or minus underlying tissue, or surgical lifting of tissue,” explained Dr Watson. “With Botox and filler injections these problems are now often better treated without invasive surgery and its associated risks. The additional benefits for clients include faster recovery time, no scarring, no tissue loss and the ability to achieve more subtle and reversible effects.”
Dr Watson also uses Botox and filler injections to augment traditional functional surgical procedures to provide overall better effects. He has a particular interest in disorders affecting the surface of the eyes. A point in case, Dr Watson often performs blepharoplasty and eyelid ptosis surgery. These age-related surgeries have dramatic effects on the appearance.
“People also come to see me who wish to get rid of their glasses with laser refractive surgery – but who then use this as a catalyst for a complete ‘fresh look’ that may include a combination of traditional eyelid surgery as well as Botox, filler injections, or both.”
Blepharoplasty removes excess eyelid skin and fat that can cause difficulty in vision and create an appearance of constant tiredness. Ptosis surgery is a lifting of “droopy eyelids”. Lifting the lids not only improves vision but also takes away the tired or severe appearance associated with ptosis. Dr Watson can augment these surgeries with Botox and filler injections to decrease wrinkles, reduce forehead furrows and sculpt eyebrows.
