"A brief note of warm thanks. The cataract surgery has been enormously successful. I had thought I might be being a bit premature having it done - because I'm sure I could have managed for quite some time without it. But being able to live without glasses for the first time in 55 years (with a couple of brief and only moderately successful periods with contacts) is great. Why didn't I do it years ago? There will be the odd occasion when I might prefer perfect distance vision in both eyes - but the convenience of the blended vision solution is well worth the slight sacrifice. To be able to get by without reading glasses for most day-to-day activities is an enormous advantage. I've now got prescription reading glasses from Grant Watters - and they will be great for sustained reading and very close work, but I can actually manage pretty well without them in most circumstances. Thanks again - and a warm thanks to your whole team, and especially to Annie."

"Dear Trevor. Just a quick note to let you know how very happy I am with both my eyes! I only need my glasses for ‘driving to the opera’ (to quote a friend of ours). This is an amazing situation for me to be in after my lifetime dependency on spectacles. I am so grateful to you for making this such a successful outcome and to you and all your team for making it such a pleasant experience too. Please use the enclosed for your working cups of coffee then you will be reminded that I am ‘keeping my eyes on you

"Dear Dr Gray, I just wanted to thank you and your team again for my wonderfully restored vision. What might have been an ordeal, was not, thanks to your combined expertise, the information I was given throughout the procedure and the care and attention I received from start to finish. I will have no qualms about having the other eye “done” if and when it needs the operation. In fact my mind will focus only on the cup of tea and the asparagus roll waiting at the other end. (perhaps!) Anyway thank you all again."
- Alison

"Dear Annie, Thank you for putting up with my many queries and responding with a friendly face and patience. A special thanks also to Miemmie who I pressured on more than one occasion! Last but by no means least my grateful thanks to Trevor Gray for his extraordinary skill and knowledge. I look forward to seeing my way around Auckland Harbour again with confidence."

"Dr Gray, Annie, Brenda, and team, Just a brief note, but a very large expression of thanks to you all. My new sight is absolutely stunning, as you had anticipated while I remained sceptical until the day after the surgery. Taking off the plastic cups on Wednesday morning and glancing at a newspaper to see all the words, large font and small, in bright sharp type was a truly memorable experience. The friendly and cheerful care you’ve provided, the skill revealed by the amazing results, the professionalism at every stage, and Annie’s endless patience with my questions, leave me very grateful to you all. Wishing you all the very best, I remain in your debt."

Refractive-Cataract
Surgery refers
to the latest advances in cataract
surgery, where Dr Gray uses special
techniques and technologies to help
each patient regain improved vision
and greater freedom from glasses.

Dr Gray has completed accredited training
to use the most advanced technologies
to help his patients achieve their
best vision, often with minimal need
for glasses after successful surgery.
For those who are techno-hungry, here
are some details of the amazing technology
that make this surgery what many refer
to as “a modern miracle”:
- Astigmatism
correcting intra-ocular lenses (“Toric
IOLs”):
AcrySof Toric IOL, Rayner Toric IOL,
STAAR Toric IOL
- Multifocal intra-ocular
lenses: ReSTOR IOL, Tecnis Multifocal
IOL, ReZOOM
IOL. These Multifocal IOLs enable
most patients to read and drive
without glasses.
- Advanced eye measurements (biometry)
to maximize the accuracy of the intra-ocular
lens selection using “Immersion
Ultrasound”, the “IOL
Master” and
corneal topography provide amazing
accuracy of each patient’s
own eye measurements
- Advanced IOL power
calculation software: “Holladay
IOL Consultant”, Haigis, Holladay-2,
Hoffer-Q, SRK-T
- Previous laser vision
correction (LASIK or PRK). Patients
who have cataracts
and had previous refractive surgery
require very careful calculations
and special techniques that take
their
past laser surgery into account.
Eye Institute is the first in NZ
to install
the “Pentacam” that provides
more accurate eye measurements required
after laser vision correction.
