Bruce Hadden's long-standing
reputation is founded on:
| Safety
First: |
Advising everyone
as if they were his own family |
| |
Offering the most suitable
of the range of vision correction
procedures |
These
decisions are based on a very thorough
assessment by both Dr Hadden and
by Jennifer. Jennifer has ten years
experience as an ophthalmic technician.
She has a BSc degree from the University
of Sheffield in eye orthoptics,
and is technically highly competent,
as well as an excellent communicator.
The third team member is Alesha,
our very pleasant, knowledgeable,
and efficient organizer and secretary.
Dr Hadden is proud to be one of
Eye Institute's founding surgeons,
who both introduced laser corrective
surgery to New Zealand, and established
modern small-incision phaco-emulsification
cataract surgery in New Zealand.
He trained in medicine and ophthalmology
in New Zealand, and then he did
a two year post-graduate Fellowship
at the prestigious Bascom Palmer
Eye Institute in Miami, Florida.
He has published 26 scientific
papers in peer-reviewed journals.
(To view, go to www.pubmed.gov and

He has also presented at many international
meetings; most recently in Chicago
at the annual meeting of the American
Society of Cataract and Refractive
Surgery in April 2008.
Dr Hadden has been Chairman of
the Board of Examiners of the Royal
Australian and New Zealand College
of Ophthalmologists, and in 2002-2003
was President of the College. He
is the only New Zealander to have
held either of these posts.
In October 2007 Dr Hadden was
awarded an honorary Doctor of Laws
degree by the University of Auckland,
for contributions to eye surgery,
to education and training in Australia
and New Zealand, and to vision
research at the University of Auckland.
Pastimes
When time permits he jogs, cycles, gardens and reads. And now he
also sometimes minds the grandchildren.

with expertise in women’s radiology. She is a partner in
Auckland Radiology Group, and a part-time consultant at National
Women’s Hospital (now Auckland City Hospital).
Dr Hadden and Wendy have two sons.
Peter is an ophthalmologist, sub-specialising
in vitreo-retinal and cataract
surgery. He works both at Eye Institute
